Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, Mike Mullen, came to Chicago in
August. He spoke to a business group, visited a factory where
returning veterans are hired, saw the mayor and then went to a White Sox
game where he threw out the first pitch. I had the pleasure of
talking to Mike during the breakfast event. He was my ASW Officer
when I was the Weapons Officer aboard Collett in 69-70 so we had a lot
to catch up on in 5 minutes. The Chairman signed my copy of Collett's
WestPac cruise book. His photographer got a few good pictures.

Click on August 25 and on the third row you can see Mike signing the
cruise book. This was a great moment for me to enjoy the success
of one of our own shipmates. Mike is just a down to earth and
pleasant today as he was on his first ship in Long Beach. Many
other photos of our CJCS are on the same website.
